Last month we shared this post because there were at least 8 or 9 instances of women on the front covers of popular magazines rocking their natural hair. Flashback just ten years ago, that was pretty darn rare! Most of the comments from that post ranged from:
To many of us beaming with pride on just how far we have come. With that said, the good news is the reign ain’t over because Harper’s BAZAAR Singapore chose diversity activist and my favorite dancehall revelist Winnie Harlow for three of their “diversity” covers in May –and she ditched the weave.
Via Harper’s BAZAAR Singapore:
Winnie Harlow, couldn’t be more apt to front our May beauty issue and its focus on diversity. In an industry that prides itself on selling the idea of the ultimate fantasy and impeccable perfection, Winnie Harlow’s unique look has won her fashion and beauty campaigns, and millions of followers for breaking down borders and pushing through a new discourse on what is considered “normal”.
The homie rocked bantu knots yall! And she looked amazing. Winnie spoke about why all three of her covers meant so much to her and gave kudos to the magazine for allowing her to have her personal stylist come out to do her hair for all three covers.

You don’t understand what this cover means to me! Thank you @harpersbazaarsg @kennieboy and @yutsai88 for this amazing cover and for understanding the importance of Black Hair Care and booking my personal hair dresser @ynotkeeb to achieve all the styles requested! We need more people who understand different textures of hair! Our industry is so into the diversity of models right now, but our industry is made of so many other jobs including photographers, stylist, hair, makeup, casting directors etc! We need FULL DIVERSITY! Thank you Harpers Bazaar Singapore for making this step for diversity.
The rest of Winnie’s covers are just as beautiful as above check them out below:
Love it!
