News of Shumpert and Taylor’s divorce came in September 2023 after the Harlem native confirmed their separation.
However, legal documents revealed that the divorce was actually filed in January of that same year, where Taylor accused Shumpert of “extreme emotional and mental abuse.”
Additionally, she claimed that her growing stardom angered him and therefore she “began to intentionally dim her light for her husband to try to have a harmonious and peaceful marriage.”
Taylor claimed to have turned down various acting roles and other opportunities because he “did not want her to work,” but then complained when she stopped working after giving birth.
Two months after their divorce news broke, The Chi actor issued a statement through his attorney saying he, “hopes parties and counsel can work toward a fair resolution, keeping the best interests of the children of paramount concern.”
Taylor and Shumpert married in 2016 after giving birth to their eldest daughter, Iman “Junie” Tayla Shumpert, in 2015.
