Dr. Nicole Williams, found herself in some hot water recently because she shared a photograph of herself posing with 22 Fibroids she extracted from an AKA Sorority Member.
She is now apologizing for her error after receiving backlash online.
In her original post sis gave a little history lesson under a picture of herself posing in celebration of Founders Day next to one of her patients 22 removed fibroids.
see below:
she wrote:
“This is TRUE. On the 109th anniversary of our beloved sisterhood, I removed 22 fibroids from an AKA!
For those who do not know there were 22 FOunders of Delta Sigma Theta who broke off from AKA in 1913 to forge their own destiny with a new organization, new goals and, a new way of thinking. Delta Women.
Her critics called her out for being insensitive, especially in this day and age when black women seek out black doctors in order to feel safe.
Imagine going to a doctor that looks like you for comfort and peace of mind…just to end up having your fibroids displayed for the world to see. This is corny beyond measure. So much for a “safe space” smh

This right here. Neither of these are my org so I won’t mind that business. But as someone who specifically seeks out Black women medical professionals, I’d be hurt and furious to come across something like this from my doctor.

I’m pretty sure that’s NOT what your Founders taught you . To embarrass or make fun of another sister rather your colors or not. You thought it was cute and funny but the jokes about to be on you when you lose your job and this lady files a hell of a lawsuit in you pic.twitter.com/hDDTBo3PWu

and another saying, this could potentially be a HIPPA violation.
It’s not a few words short. If the patient can identify themselves from the post it’s a violation.

Others pointed out how weird the gesture was:
So she saying the 22 Deltas were causing problems and had to be removed to save the life of the AKAs? ?…. I bet that played out so much differently in her head ?

This isn’t even a flex. It’s just a why? And the question of who took the photo is a good one cause why is your phone out in a clean room?

Dr. Williams has since issued an apology on Instagram, calling the post a ‘terrible decision’.
She wrote:
A terrible decision was made. I unequivocally and prayerfully apologize for any hurt I may have caused. It is my hope one day to live up to the high ideals that I have so damaged. The only thing I can do is to keep working hard in the future.
Unfortunately on Instagram, her followers’ arent too pleased with her apology, saying that it lacks accountability.

What kind of passive voice apology is this? “a terrible decision was made”? “Who made it? “I made a terrible decision” would best reflect taking accountability but alas… here we are. All this schooling and at your big age, you thought that was acceptable? I hope all your clients drop you as their doctor and I hope the board sanctions you??♀️
