So, which chefs am I talking about?
Chaya Fletcher

Chaya Fletcher is among the best Black women chefs in the country, and she’s a lifelong Oklahoma City resident.
Fletcher used to own Urban Roots, a restaurant that blended food and art.
She has worked with celebrity chefs like Rick Bayless, Dean Fearing, and Rachel Ray.
Fletcher opened her second restaurant, Kindred Spirits, in the city’s East Point Development.
The restaurant’s menu honors Black women through foods like slow-smoked chicken and black-eyed peas.
Sam Davis
Chef Sam Davis started her culinary career with a catering company, Savor by Sam, in 2011.
Since then, Chef Sam has catered to high-profile clients like Roc Nation, The Daily Show, Adidas, and even Leslie Jones.
The Chef uses her island roots in her meals, and she studied under New York’s best chefs.
Chef Sam’s cooking works because she’s won plenty of honors, including:

- 2016 LinkedIn #ChaseGreat campaign star
The Chef currently works as Henry at Life Hotel’s Chef de Cuisine.
Avanelle James

When it comes to Caribbean cuisine, Chef Avanelle James is among the best Black women chefs.
She studied at Trinidad and Tobago Hospitality Institute and Johnson and Wales University Baking and Pastry Arts.
Between 2005 and 2009, Chef Avanelle was the Pastry Supervisor at the Hilton in Trinidad.
From 2009 to 2013, the Chef was the Executive Pastry Chef at the Crews Inn Yachting Centre.
Since then, she has worked at Hyatt Regency Trinidad.
Chef Avanelle is also an award-winning chef.
Her honors include:
- 2nd place at the 2003 Trinidad and Tobago Hospitality Institute Iron Chef competition
- Pastry Chef Competition Bronze Award at the 2009 ‘Taste of The Caribbean’ Culinary Competition
Jennifer Hill Booker

Chef Jennifer Hill Booker is a woman of many talents.
She is a business owner, culinary educator, cookbook author, and reality TV personality.
Chef Jennifer graduated from Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Paris, France.
Since then, she has worked with celebrity chefs like Chef Joe Randall, Patrick Neely, Tiffany Derry, and Marvin Woods.
Chef Jennifer owns Bauhaus Biergarten, which brings German cuisine and delicacies to the United States.
She also owns the Baby It’s Cold Outside rubs and seasonings.
Petrina Peart
Jamaican-born Chef Petrina Peart became passionate about cooking while in the Air Force.
She learned about the importance of food and how it connects us despite coming from different backgrounds.
Chef Petrina worked at Le Cordon Bleu, where she learned the skills that matched her passion for gastronomy.
Over the past five years, the Chef has worked at Las Vegas restaurants like Andiron and Americana.
She also owns Gaiya’s Harvest, which offers fine vegan dining in Vegas.
Airis Johnson

Chef Airis Johnson didn’t start as a chef.
She started studying Marketing in college.
However, Chef Airis got hooked on culinary arts after she cooked her first college meal.
After graduating, she enrolled in the Art Institute of NYC’s culinary program.
Since then, Chef Airis has worked with food industry greats like Gordon Ramsay, Sue Torres, and Danny Meyer.
The Chef is currently a food blogger and private Chef.
