Did you watch Black Girls Rock last night? The highlights have been all over the internet and on Instagram so if you didn’t you should have at least have caught some of the clips.
From Tracee Ellis Ross doing the darn thing with her wig changing opening routine to Jazmine Sullivan’s diverse dancers rocking the stage in her sultry self-love rendition of “Mona Lisa”.
With that said here are my top 5 moments of the show:
Tracee’s opening was everything!
She paid homage to her mom Diana Ross, Queen Latifah, Rihana, and Beyonce all in one swift funny wig changing moment!
2. Jasmine’s Rendition of “Mona Lisa”
I am so in love with Jasmine’s whole vibe and come back. Did you catch her back up dancers? All shapes and sizes, it was everything.
3. Rihanna’s speech
Rihanna: “The minute you learn to love yourself, you would not want to be anyone else.”
4. The Shonda Rhimes Speech
Shonda couldnt do a speech without dropping a few gems on em, she said “Change the world. And when you’ve done that, change it again.” – Amen to that!
5. The Beverly Bond speech
Of course the moment Beverly Bond gave her speech was amazing, she spoke about how important this event is and mentioned cultural appropriation and the awesomeness of black girl magic.
“I started Black Girls Rock because I love us and I believe in us,” she says. “I want us to be free,” she said. “To all the black girls all over the world — own your magic.”
Perfect end to an awesome night!
