Three months after rapper Tory Lanez was found guilty of shooting rapper Megan Thee Stallion, he has filed an appeal against the conviction.
According to TMZ, they obtained documents where the rapper’s criminal defense lawyer claimed the rapper’s conviction should be thrown out because only “irrelevant evidence” was used in the trial.
Tory Lanez Wants The Ruling Overturned
The lawyer, Jose Baez, added that a shirtless photo of Lanez wielding a gun only showed his love of weapons and nothing more.
Baez added that prosecutors threatening to present the rapper’s lyrics to the jury was a reversible error.
In addition, Baez believed that the jury shouldn’t have heard an 80-minute interview that Megan’s former best friend, Kelsey Harris, had with prosecutors–Kelsey was in the car with the musicians on the night of the shooting.
Harris’ interview harmed Lanez’s case, even though she later took back her words.
In December 2022, the rapper was convicted of shooting Megan Thee Stallion’s feet after a verbal fight when they left Kylie Jenner’s house.
Lanez was charged with carrying a loaded, unregistered gun in a car and assault with a semi-automatic firearm.
The musician received another charge of discharging his weapon with gross negligence.
On trial, Megan relayed the events leading up to Tory Lanez shooting her foot.
According to the WAP star, Lanez shot several times at her while shouting at her to dance.
I’m in shock. I’m scared. I hear the gun going off and I can’t believe he’s shooting at me.
After the incident, Megan claimed Lanez offered her and Harris $1 million to stay quiet about what happened.
Throughout the trial, Lanez maintained his innocence and pleaded not guilty.
After his conviction, Lanez faces up to 22 years in prison and is likely to be deported to Canada.
