Popular travel blogger Momtrotter is getting slammed online after she posts a video of herself and her husband enjoying an upgrade to business class while their 10 yr old sits in economy.
In her caption she said:
POV: Enjoying business class with my husband on a 13 hour flight while our 10 year old sits in the back in economy class because he doesn’t have United Premier 1K status like we do and didn’t get a complementary upgrade. 🤷🏾♀️
Sorry son 😂😂😂
Then she said:
Let’s talk fam !!
– What would you do? Option 1, 2 or 3? And why?
– Does the flight time make a difference in your decision?
– Does the age of the child make a difference in your decision?
#1. Take the business class upgrade and leave your child in economy
2. Give your child the business class upgrade and sit in economy
3. Decline the upgrade so that you can all sit in economy together
Watch:
If you are familiar with ‘themomtrotter’ then you have probably seen some of the outstanding travel pictures she often shares with her son who is homeschooled.
And while most of her posts are loved by her followers this post caused quite the debate.
Some said it was not safe for her child to fly ‘alone’ and others said, he is on the same plane so they did not see the issue.
One follower said:
I agree in letting the kids stay in economy but not alone. There needs to be someone there with them. Mom and dad would be taking turns in business 🤷🏽♀️
and another:
Parents work hard and deserve some perks and praise. At the end of the day he’s still flying on the same plane and being cared for. This isn’t any different than parents being in the house having charcuterie and wine with the ac on while kids play outside. Let grownups enjoy grownup things.
and this one:
Definitely wouldn’t have left my boy 😫 my nerves and heart wouldn’t have let me 😩
Another user suggested the parent’s get ‘parenting classes’.
Y’all need parenting classes. The whole notion is wild. The other adul5 passengers on the plane are not your village in the event some catastrophe happens and you can’t get to your child. All because you want to relax in 1st class. While I understand wanting to take in the luxury, this is irresponsible. If you won’t upgrade, the child then pay for another adult to sit with him. He may be well traveled, but he’s still 10 and vulnerable to so much. Do better.
3 for me. I’m just not that trusting when it comes to my little people’s safety. If anything happened on the plane (though not likely) I’d rather be together. Biz class isn’t going anywhere and I travel alone enough to enjoy the upgrade on a different trip sans kids.
The counter argument:

My opinion – It depends on the parent. Personally I would rather enjoy business class with my child than without, not just because ‘anything can happen’ but because I genuinely like experiencing every aspect of the trip with my kid if we are together.
That’s me though!
