Trinity Rodman has just become the highest-paid player in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) history.
Rodman, who is still only 19 years old, has just signed a contract with Washington Spirit worth $1.1 million.
Women’s soccer is a sport with very few Black athletes in the country.
That makes this a monumental monument for the entire Black community, not just Rodman.
According to Spirit coach Kris Ward, the team is ecstatic to have her as part of its family for the next 3 seasons or more.
Ward believes that she has a bright career ahead, and she will make the club better on every front.
The Details of Rodman’s Deal
Trinity Rodman’s four-year deal extends her initial contract with Washington Spirit.
When she joined the club in 2021, it was on a three-year deal worth roughly $42,000 in base salary, plus bonuses and housing.
The Washington D.C. club could afford to update her salary through allocation money: money for teams to sign players or allocate their wages so they can remain below the salary cap.
Making History
Trinity Rodman is not just the highest earner in the league.
When she was 18, she was chosen second in the 2021 NWSL College Draft.
This made her the youngest player to be drafted in the history of the NWSL.
After just her first season, Rodman got a plethora of awards:
- U.S. Soccer Young Female Player of the Year
- NWSL Best XI
- NWSL Rookie of the Year
Calling her a hot prospect would be a massive understatement.
People will inevitably compare Trinity Rodman with her father, Dennis Rodman.
However, she is making her own name and carving out her own path.
Her career is one to keep a close eye on with the amount of success she has already garnered when she is still just 19.
