Usher recently appeared on Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast.
He spoke about this year’s Super Bowl halftime show, missed film opportunities, and then gave us the biggest shock of the show.
According to Vibe, the King of R&B almost formed a supergroup with fellow music legends.
Sharpe asked the singer if he regretted turning down a collab, and Usher revealed he had “secret talks” to form a music group with hip-hop legends Diddy, Jay-Z, and Pharell.
“You gon’ hate me for this one. JAY-Z, Pharrell, Diddy, and [I] was supposed to be a group. Yeah, that’s crazy.”

“I didn’t say, ‘No.’ I didn’t say, ‘Yeah.’ I think that we just got caught up. We all got caught up in the moment. We was talking about it and having secret meetings about it. We was talking about music and how we was gon’ flip it, and the business of it. Somehow, we just got distracted, and it never happened. That’s one that I actually wish would have happened.”
Usher and Jay-Z have been close friends for long, and Jay reached out when the singer learned he’d be the main event in the Super Bowl halftime show.
“JAY-Z, he reached out to me personally. I had an idea that he might be calling. He happened to be coming to town, in Atlanta with the [Renaissance] tour. Every time we’re in Atlanta, we play Spades. I’m thinking he’s getting ready to call me to say, ‘Yo, pull up to the stadium and come get this work.’ He’s like, ‘Nah, I ain’t calling you about Spades. He’s like it’s time. This is the magic moment. This is the Michael moment.’”
Usher’s time to shine in front of the whole world come on February 11 during the 2024 Super Bowl as the Kansas City Chiefs face off against the San Francisco 49ers.
