Vybz Kartel, the international music sensation currently battling for his freedom in court, now faces a new obstacle: his severely deteriorating health.
FOX 5 NY obtained a sworn medical affidavit revealing alarming information from Kartel’s private doctor.
The affidavit notified authorities that Kartel’s Graves’ Disease and heart condition were worsening.
If he doesn’t get surgery in time, the consequences could be fatal.
Vybz Kartel’s Condition Is Serious
Kartel’s attorney expressed concern over the inhumane prison conditions jeopardizing his client’s life.
Human rights attorney, Isat Buchanan, further emphasized the gravity of the situation.
“Mr. Palmer’s illness is actually life-threatening.”
Vybz Kartel, real name Adidja Palmer, is currently enduring solitary confinement for twenty-three hours a day.
Buchanan described the conditions in the prison cell as abysmal.
He compared the cell to a brick oven with minimal air circulation and no access to water except for a bucket serving as a makeshift toilet.
Since 2011, Kartel has been in a Jamaican prison on a murder conviction he vehemently denies.
His legal team is actively appealing the conviction, seeking justice from the UK’s highest court.
Unfortunately, the severe lockdown measures imposed on Kartel have taken a toll on his health, exacerbating his existing conditions.
Buchanan, who saw him on Memorial Day, observed the visible effects, with Kartel’s swollen neck preventing the closure of an average-sized collar.
Additionally, his face appeared swollen, and his eyes protruded due to the lack of proper care while wearing his glasses.
The medical report that FOX 5 NY obtained documents Kartel’s ongoing struggle with Graves’ Disease, a thyroid condition that hasn’t entered remission.
Additionally, the musician suffers from two heart conditions and associated complications–prompting Dr. Phillips to recommend immediate surgical intervention.
Buchanan fears that Kartel’s life might be at risk due to the 23-hour lockdown preventing adequate breathing and exacerbating his illness.
We do not want to get a phone call to say that because he was under this 23-hour lockdown, and unable to breathe, he succumbed to his illness.”
While Vybz Kartel’s legal battle persists, his supporters remain hopeful that justice will prevail and that he recovers from his health struggles.
I still can’t believe Vybz Kartel went to jail at the peak of his career. The Jamaican justice system clearly doesn’t joke around
