Will Smith is reflecting on his past relationship with former castmate Janet Hubert.
Hubert, 68, portrayed Vivian Banks on the original Fresh Prince of Bel-Air for the first three seasons. She later left the show in 1993, citing “creative differences,” and was replaced by Daphne Maxwell Reid.
Since then, Hubert and Smith have had publicized disputes but ultimately reconciled in 2020.
In a recent sit-down with Chris Spencer on Vice’s Black Comedy in America series, the 56-year-old admitted to making a “horrible error” in misjudging Hubert while the two were on the show.
“I made a horrible error and misjudgment of her value, power, and beauty to the show,” Smith told People Magazine. “I horribly underestimated what she was for me at that point in my life.”

Smith and Smith openly criticized each other in the years following her departure from Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
Their feud made headlines, with the “Bad Boys” star, at one point, telling an Atlanta radio station that Hubert “wanted to be The Aunt Viv of Bel-Air,” per Complex.
But in 2020, Smith and Hubert had an emotional reconciliation during an HBO Max special celebrating Fresh Prince’s 30th Anniversary. The pair even sat down for the first time in decades to discuss their differences.
Speaking to People in 2021, “The Perfect Find” actress said she and Smith have a very good relationship.
“We text each other back and forth all the time,” she said. “I meant it with all my heart when I hugged him because I saw that little boy, that little 21-year-old boy. Had we had an opportunity to talk back then, I think this would have never happened.”
