Zendaya has entered the swamp.
The Emmy winner, who is currently filming Euphoria, has been tapped to join the Shrek franchise as Felicia, the daughter of Shrek and Fiona, Universal Pictures announced Thursday. Mike Myers and Cameron Diaz will reprise their roles as the beloved ogre couple.
In a teaser clip shared on YouTube, Zendaya’s swamp-dwelling character reacts to her dad scrolling through videos on his magic mirror.
When Shrek stumbles upon an edited photo of himself looking unrealistically buff, the Spider-Man star’s redheaded ogress retches and exclaims, “Ew, dad!”
“Ooh, mommy like,” Cameron Diaz’s Fiona says approvingly before Shrek asks, “Who’s making this stuff?”
Also returning for Shrek 5 is Eddie Murphy, who voices Donkey, Shrek’s beloved four-legged sidekick. The latest chapter in the fairytale franchise is set to hit theaters on December 23, 2026, and will be the first installment to hit theaters since 2010’s Shrek Forever After.
There’s no word yet on the storyline.
Zendaya’s new role comes after years of being a Shrek fan.
Back in 2017, the singer-actress tweeted, “I watch Shrek too often in my adulthood”—a post the official Shrek Instagram account resurfaced on the day of the fifth film’s announcement with the caption, “This aged well.”
Before joining Shrek 5, Zendaya earned critical acclaim for her role as Tashi Duncan in Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers, which landed her a 2025 Best Actress Golden Globe nomination. While she lost the award to Demi Moore for The Substance, her performance was widely praised.
She’s also expected to return for the highly anticipated third season of Euphoria (slated for release sometime in 2026). The 28-year-old will also appear in Christopher Nolan’s star-studded The Odyssey and A24’s The Drama, a romance dramedy alongside Robert Pattinson.
