CurlMix, the beloved natural haircare brand built on the South Side of Chicago, is asking the community for help.
Its no secret that our economy has not been the best, we are all feeling it, but the urgency we have to preserve our legacy brands will always remain a top priority.
Known for its clean, handmade formulas and deep roots in the natural hair movement, CurlMix was founded by husband-and-wife duo Kim and Tim Lewis, who set out to create products that celebrated and protected curls without compromise.
The demand for honest clean products is the pillar on which this brand was built!
In other words we asked for this, we invested in this and frankly we want to keep it.
From kitchen experiments to national recognition, the brand grew into one of the most celebrated Black-owned beauty companies in the country, known not just for its ingredients but for its authenticity.
Now, they’re fighting to stay open.
In a heartfelt message posted to Instagram, Kim shared:
“We built CurlMix on the South Side of Chicago to create safe, natural products made for our community.
But today, we’re fighting to keep going to protect Black ownership, preserve Chicago jobs, and keep making what our community needs. Order the Protect CurlMix Bundle — 10 bestsellers, made fresh to order for $100.
Every purchase keeps our factory running and our people working.”
The post, titled #ProtectCurlMix, is more than a marketing campaign it’s a rallying cry.
CurlMix has long represented what’s possible when Black entrepreneurs build with purpose: a brand rooted in transparency, inclusion, and community.
Their products from the Pure Flaxseed Gel to the Moisturizer and Conditioner lines have been staples for countless naturals who value integrity in beauty.
Now, they’re inviting that same community to help sustain what they’ve built. Every purchase of the Protect CurlMix Bundle directly supports the team, the factory, and the continuation of Black-owned manufacturing on the South Side of Chicago.
In an industry where Black founders often struggle to access capital and distribution, CurlMix’s journey reminds us why community support still matters.

Because protecting CurlMix means protecting one of the few Black-owned beauty brands still manufacturing their own products by hand, for us, by us.
