Story time!
Girl, my hair is breaking!
The sides, the front, the back, the middle, Chile.. I have no clue what’s happening, but I do know two things!
I need to get checked out, I need to control my stress, and I will not be participating in silk press season.
Ok …..so that’s three things, but I digress.

**Deep sigh**
Anyway!
If you are like me and you are stepping away from silk press season, but you still want to take full advantage of this cool weather, you might be looking for some options for stretched hair without the heat.
Below I have compiled a few options:
1. (My signature look) The Stretched Twist Out
A stretched twist out is the closest thing to a silk press look without heat because it elongates the hair and if you smooth your ends properly, you wont even miss that bone straight look.
Why it works:
• elongation without shrinkage
• soft volume that still moves
• perfect for medium and long naturals
Here is how you achieve the look:
• Twist on damp hair, not soaking wet
• Use a light hold cream or mousse for smoothness
• Let it dry fully before separating

2. Flexi Rod Set
If you want body, shine, and a head full of uniform curls, then flexi rods will deliver.
Why it works:
• Zero direct heat
• Uniformed curls
• Longevity if you simply pineapple at night without a ton of manipulation
Tips:
• Use a setting foam for hold
• Sit under a hooded dryer if you want quicker results
• Separate curls with oil to reduce frizz

Now, if you do not mind using a blow dryer, try this version:

3. Roller Set
the girlies have really been bringing back this classic style and for good reason. Roller sets when done properly smooth the hair shaft and stretch curls without flat irons.
Why it works:
• Lightweight, bouncy finish
• Less tension and no burning
• Works on all lengths when sectioned properly
Tips:
• Use magnetic rollers for maximum smoothness
• Tension is key, roll tightly
• Hooded dryer speeds it up but is gentler than direct heat

4. Braid Out on Stretched Hair
Honestly, I have never met a braid-out girlie who didn’t rant and rave about her braid out, so if you want to try it, I suggest you start out with freshly washed hair and then blow-dry on cool.
You get definition, movement, and a silk press vibe without extreme heat.
Why it works:
• Controlled volume
• Soft waves that mimic a loose press
• Lasts with nighttime braiding
Tips:
• Larger braids for a sleeker finish
• Mousse gives shine without weight

As for me and mine?
I think I will stick with twists or braids!
One of the ways I plan to deal with the breakage along the edges of my hairline is by installing simple cornrows that will remain intact without manipulation.
Do not laugh, but here is an upclose shot of one side.

I look crazy as hell, but it is what it is.
My twists are simple as well:

I will update this post with results when I unravel the twists, but for now, this style will be my go-to for the rest of the season.
Oh, my products?
I like to keep things super simple. I used a little Aloe Vera Gel and Shea Moisture Coconut and Hibiscus Curl and shine Conditioner with Silk Protein and Neem.
Final thoughts:
A silk press is not the only way to enjoy length, shine, and movement. With the right technique you can keep your curls healthy and still get that “she got her hair done” look.
The above heat conscious alternatives can be rotated all season so your hair stays stretched, protected, and gorgeous without long-term damage.
