Social media is calling out media outlets like Access Hollywood for their open celebration of Shia LeBeouf’s return to the red carpet.
E News captured his return as “Shia LaBeouf is back in the spotlight” noting that the 37 yr old was photographed at his first red carpet event in four years May 16.
Wearing a black tux and debuting dyed blond hair, LaBeouf appeared at the premiere of Francis Ford Coppola’s new star-studded film Megalopolis at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival in France.
The actor, who last walked an official red carpet at the 2020 Oscars, was joined at the event by several of his costars, including Adam Driver, Jon Voight, Giancarlo Esposito, Laurence Fishburne, Aubrey Plaza, Chloe Fineman and Nathalie Emmanuel.
With that said, social media is having none of it many recalling his tumultuous relationship with FKA Twigs.
#ShiaLaBeouf BRUTALIZED FKA Twigs for YEARS. He made her fear for her life & was physically/mentally/verbally/sexually abusive. It's SICK that @accesshollywood doesn't give a damn about Black women that are terrorized by these monstrous, abusive men! pic.twitter.com/FhrD3cEZ5B

Last year it was Johnny Depp, this year it’s James Franco and Shia Labeouf. Why is Cannes so obsessed with redeeming men accused of abuse and sexual assault? https://t.co/pSGgq2AP61

Damn maybe after a couple of years Diddy could make a comeback after all, sadly.
We’ve seen it time and time again from Josh Brolin to Mike Tyson to Dr. Dre to Chris Brown to now Shia.
It’s beyond terrible and we the public and the journalists who write such glowing things…

Shia LaBeouf and FKA Twigs relationship timeline
Shia LaBeouf and FKA Twigs, whose real name is Tahliah Barnett, had a highly publicized and tumultuous relationship that began in 2018.
They met on the set of LaBeouf’s film “Honey Boy” and dated for about a year before breaking up.
In December 2020, FKA Twigs filed a lawsuit against LaBeouf, accusing him of sexual battery, assault, and infliction of emotional distress.
FKA Twigs described the relationship as deeply isolating and damaging to her self-esteem, recounting incidents where LaBeouf’s jealousy and controlling behavior led to severe emotional distress.
She also alleged that he knowingly gave her a sexually transmitted disease and that he physically abused her, including an incident where he choked her at a gas station
LaBeouf has acknowledged his abusive behavior in response to these allegations, expressing remorse and attributing his actions to his struggles with alcoholism and aggression. He stated that he was committed to seeking help and recovering from his issues (Entertainment Tonight 2021).
Gayle King asks FKA Twigs why didn’t she leave her relationship with Shia LaBeouf
“I’m not going to answer that question anymore because the question should really be to the abuser, why are you holding someone hostage?” pic.twitter.com/6gzXGKOiVJ
