India Arie says she will be taking a break from touring and performing due to her mental health.
In a detailed Instagram post the songstress said the past four years have been heart-wrenching, and the constant underpayment throughout her career has taken a toll on her.
To prioritize her well-being, she is stepping back to regain her mental and physical health.
She titled the post:
Open Letter From India.Arie with the caption:
Take moment to read my ???? its looks long but its only a 1 min read lol
I left my touring life in September 2019. I’ve sat quietly all these years because the things that inspired me had disappeared and I’ve been healing from GREAT disillusionment.
When I carefully accepted these shows (turning down MANY others, my agent can attest to this) I wanted to experiment with how I feel about things in these post 2020 days and to be back with fans and with the music and see hoe it felt.
But as I’m trying to prepare for these shows everything in me is screaming NO.
India continues her post with details about the toll things have taken on her mental health and physical health emphatically declaring that she has to stay home.

It takes a smart, tuned in woman to listen to, and then follow your inner spirit, your instincts some may call it. Do you. Take your time. As people have said in the comments, we love you, and clearly you love yourself enough not to succumb to the BS in this business at the loss of your own spirit. #LongLifeLuenell

We shall send ???????????? and we shall wait patiently for you to share the next part of your journey. You are precious to us And most important to yourself and the Creator????✨????❤️

Wooooooo. This hits. I hope you are feeling the love and respect pouring in. It takes courage to prioritize your holistic happiness and well being. We have not really been given instructions on how to do that and what it looks like. Much of what you said here as far as the disillusionment is something I can reeeeally relate to. It can be so confusing to no longer know quite how to connect to what you’ve done for so long. You’re not alone. I appreciate you so much. Love.
Sending India so much love, rest and mental wealth.
