Just months after tying the knot in a seemingly spur-of-the-moment wedding, Tory Lanez’s marriage to Raina Chassagne is already unraveling.
According to court documents obtained by People, Lanez – real name Daystar Shemuel Shua Peterson – secretly wed Raina Chassagne in June 2023, just three months before he began his highly-publicized 10-year sentence for shooting rapper Megan Thee Stallion in the feet in July 2020 in Hollywood Hills.
However, Chassagne, who shares a child with Lanez, filed to end their short-lived marriage on Monday, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split.
Interestingly, she didn’t change her last name, and it remains unclear how long she and Tory Lanez dated before tying the knot on June 25, 2023.
Chassagne is also seeking sole legal and physical custody of their 7-year-old son Kai (born April 12, 2017) but has agreed to visitation.
According to TMZ, despite her wishes regarding custody, the GNA sales & services manager/entrepreneur has taken Kai to visit his father at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi.
In fact. Kai got to spend time with Tory Lanez two weekends earlier this year.
A member of the rapper’s legal team told TMZ at the time that the duo’s interaction was unlike regular prison visits. Kai got to sit at a table and spend hours drawing, playing board games, and munching on machine snacks. He even got to hug his dad.
Tory Lanez brought his son Kai to court multiple times during his December 2022 trial, where Megan Thee Stallion testified that the Canadian rapper fired several shots at her while shouting, “Dance, bitch!” following an argument during their ride home from a pool party held at Kylie Jenner’s LA home in 2020.
In September 2023, Judge David Herriford denied Tory Lanez bail, citing the “violent felony” for which the rapper was convicted and his “history of violating court orders.” Herriford also mentioned Lanez’s previous violations of protective orders and stated that he was a deportation risk due to his Canadian citizenship.
Not much is known about Tory Lanez’s wife, Chassagne, but according to sources, she originally hails from Miami, Florida. They first met at Glades Middle School in Miami at the age of 12. Currently, she works as a manager for GNA Sales & Services, LLC, in Jacksonville.
Their relationship came to light after journalist Meghann Cuniff announced their marriage following Tory Lanez’s request for bail from the Superior Court of Los Angeles. She noted on X (formerly Twitter), ‘From his sentencing hearing engagement announcement to his bail motion wedding announcement, Tory Lanez’s relationship status has advanced rapidly in the last few weeks. His fiancée is now his wife, according to the motion.’
