Grayson Murray’s parents have revealed that the golfer died by suicide.
According to Page Six, Eric and Terry Murray wrote a statement that the PGA Tour shared on Sunday.
“We have spent the last 24 hours trying to come to terms with the fact that our son is gone… It’s surreal that we not only have to admit it to ourselves, but that we also have to acknowledge it to the world. It’s a nightmare… We have so many questions that have no answers.”
Grayson’s parents revealed that he received plenty of love from his family, friends, and fans.
“Life wasn’t always easy for Grayson, and although he took his own life, we know he rests peacefully now.”
On Saturday, the PGA Tour’s commissioner, Jay Monahan, confirmed that the two-time winner had passed away.
“We were devastated to learn — and are heartbroken to share — that PGA Tour player Grayson Murray passed away this morning. I am at a loss for words… The PGA Tour is a family, and when you lose a member of your family, you are never the same. We mourn Grayson and pray for comfort for his loved ones.”
Grayson died one day after pulling out of the Charles Schwab Challenge.

Grayson Murray had been open about his struggles with mental health and alcohol addiction.
“It’s not easy. I wanted to give up a lot of times. Give up on myself. Give up on the game of golf. Give up on life, at times.”
At the time, the golfer was grateful to his fiancee, Christiana Ritchie, for her help through the rough times.
“When you get tired of fighting, let someone else fight for you.”
Grayson was also optimistic about his career resurgence.
“I wouldn’t trade anything… I have a beautiful fiancée. I have beautiful parents. I have beautiful nephews, siblings.”
“Everyone in my life right now who is close to me, who has been through the struggles with me, it’s all a team effort. I’m not sitting here — I am sitting here alone, but all of them are part of this.”
After the Sony Open, Grayson Murray revealed he was eight months sober.
In 2021, he had criticized the PGA Tour for not offering help during his struggle with alcoholism.
He tweeted:
“No the pga tour didn’t force me to drink. but the pga tour never gave me help. In my 5 years of experience of being on tour not once have i ever had a request been acknowledged by the commissioner or the PAC other than ‘we will get back to you.”
