“Miss Cleo ultimately became the face of the Psychic Readers Network, earning the trust and loyalty for those that called her,” reads a press release in promotion of the biopic. “Years later, Harris’ world was turned upside down with complaints that the Psychic Readers Network was fraudulent and spread false advertising. Facing angry fans, Harris was forced to defend her reputation to clear her name and escape financial devastation.”
Harris, whose story has been told before in the 2014 documentary Hotline, was said to have earned the Psychic Readers Network as much as $24 million a month, a figure she herself has refuted as false.
In 2016, Harris passed away from colon cancer at age 53.
Introduced to the world during her time with Death Row Records, The Lady of Rage first got into acting during the late ’90s, with credits including Ride, Next Friday, The Cookout 2, and Judas and the Black Messiah.
