Tia Mowry is sharing more details about her relationship with twin sister Tamera Mowry-Housley but the media may have misconstrued what she meant.
In a teaser for her new reality show, “Tia Mowry: My Next Act,” she admitted that she and her sister are not as close as they once were following her divorce from Cory Hardict.
“I came into this world with a twin and right after that, I went into a 22-year relationship so I have never been alone in my life. It has been quite a journey,” she said.
“Being alone has been the most challenging part of my divorce,” Mowry added. “It’s times like this when I feel and wish that my sister and I were still close and I could pick up the phone and call her.”
According to TODAY.com though Tia Mowry’s comments seemingly indicated that the two have grown apart in recent years, a source confirms that the “sisters are still close in their relationship.”
“The show was referring to closeness in terms of proximity, as Tamera lives in Napa and Tia lives in Los Angeles,” the source says.
Online, some fans said they were shocked to learn that the Mowry sisters were not as close as they used to be.
One person shared a clip of Janet Jackson’s character in “Why Did I Get Married Too?” telling her friends to fix their marriages after she learned her spouse had died following an argument they had.
“Wym tia and tamera not close anymore? uh uhhh,” they said.
Another person shared the same exact clip and wrote, “Literally breaks my heart to hear Tia say her and Tamera aren’t close anymore. Yall are TWINS.”

Despite how that clip was edited PEOPLE also confirmed the same sentiment, their source also said the clip was taken out of context.
On Friday, Sept. 20, Tia shared a lighthearted Instagram post in which she jokingly reminisced about the moment when Tamera drank some of her breast milk after her son Cree’s birth.
“Yes, that actually happened!” she wrote in the caption. “With my new show Tia Mowry: My Next Act coming out on October 4th, I had to bring back this iconic moment. Get ready for more laughs, realness, and all the new chapters ahead!”
Also speaking about her divorce in the teaser, Tia says that she became “tired of people thinking everything was perfect when it wasn’t.”
“I think I lost me,” she explains. “I have this beautiful house, I have amazing kids, but the one thing I don’t have is love.”
“Divorce is about starting over, and you have to learn how to live again,” she adds.
Elsewhere in the teaser, Tia opens up about her relationship to fame and the public perception of her, stating that she’s been in the “public eye since I was 14 years old.”
“There is a whole other side of me,” she says.
Tia and Hardrict — who share son Cree, 13, and daughter Cairo, 6 — finalized their divorce in April 2023, six months after they announced their split.
The Tia & Tamera star first announced the couple’s separation in October 2022 with a heartfelt Instagram post.
“I have always been honest with my fans, and today is no different. I wanted to share that Cory and I have decided to go our separate ways,” she wrote at the time. “These decisions are never easy, and not without sadness. We will maintain a friendship as we co-parent our beautiful children.”
She continued, “I am grateful for all the happy times we had together and want to thank my friends, family and fans for your love and support as we start this new chapter moving forward in our lives.”
