According to VIBE 61 yr old Wendy Williams will remain under guardianship, despite her desires to be released.
PEOPLE Magazine reported exclusively that the former talk show host’s current conditions were upheld after a medical examination.
The outlet reported that Williams endured a “significant number of tests (both medical and neuropsychological) and scans (including brain imaging),” related to the matter.
The testing confirmed her diagnosis with frontotemporal dementia (FTD) and aphasia, the outlet reported. Williams’ guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, requested and was granted a three-month extension, through Nov. 3, to allow time for the judge to make a long-term decision.
Morrisey’s attorney noted “complications have arisen” due to multiple parties taking action to challenge both the guardianship itself as well as Morrissey’s position.
Williams’ diagnosis of FTD and aphasia was first made public in February 2024 in an attempt to “advocate for understanding and compassion for Wendy,” according to a statement released at the time.
The famed broadcaster has also been open in the past about her battle with Graves’ Disease and Lymphedema, as well as other health-related issues.
Despite her diagnosis, the New Jersey native is adamant that she is capable of living outside of the guardianship. Earlier this year, she expressed regret for her initial consent to allowing Morrisey to control finances and healthcare.
During a birthday celebration last month, Williams revealed her wish was to be “out of guardianship.” Her attorney, Joe Tacopina, revealed plans to sue the people he deemed responsible for her current situation. Williams’ ex-husband, Kevin Hunter, has also filed a lawsuit against her guardian and guardianship for $250 million and claimed it was on her behalf.
“Those responsible for her status, basically her incarceration, will be held accountable. There’s no question about that. My goal right now and the priority is to get her back home— whatever home is, where she can come and go as she pleases,” exclaimed Tacopina.
