Wazzup! The Wayans brothers are back!
According to Deadline, Scary Movie 6 has been officially confirmed, with the Wayans brothers reuniting for the comedic, horror parody franchise 18 years since their departure.
The brothers are set to write an original script for the franchise reboot, which was confirmed at CinemaCon in April 2024. Rick Alvarez will also write and produce alongside the Wayans Bros.
The early aughts comedy series that lampooned classic slasher films like “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” and “Scream,” was developed by Marlon, Shawn, and Keenen Ivory Wayans. Keenen wrote and directed the first two films while Marlon and Shawn wrote and starred in the first two parodies.
The upcoming installment will mark the sixth film in the franchise.
“Last week I said I had a HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT to make well here it is…”Marlon wrote in an announcement post on Instagram.“WE’RE BACK!!!”
“After nearly 20 years, the Wayans brothers are finally going to give the fans what they’ve been asking for…. a return to the SCARY MOVIE franchise. We’re looking forward to having fun on the big screen again,” he added.

Then in a joint statement Tuesday (October 29) the comedian and his brothers released a joint statement saying:
“We couldn’t be more excited to be a part of the new ‘Scary Movie’ and work with each other again. This is a franchise we created more than 20 years ago. We remember people laughing in the aisles and hope to see that happen again,” they wrote.
“We look forward to working with Jonathan Glickman and his team at the new Miramax to bring these laughs to theaters, where they belong. It’s a double reunion.”
The new Scary Movie will be released in theaters and will begin shooting in 2025. Miramax will be financing the production while Paramount Pictures handles distribution.
Miramax Motion Picture Group President Becky Sloviter is set to oversee the project for the label.
“We are thrilled to reunite Scary Movie with the Wayans brothers, the brilliant creators behind the beloved franchise,” Miramax CEO Jonathan Glickman exclaimed. “The timing is perfect to bring back the series to the big screen and we’re lucky to have Keenen, Marlon, and Shawn’s unique comedic vision bringing it to audiences around the world.”
The Scary Movie comedies grossed a combined $896 million worldwide across five films. The original Scary Movie, released in 2000, became one of the highest-grossing R-rated horror comedies of its time.
It debuted with an impressive $42.5 million, setting records as the largest opening for both an R-rated horror movie and for a Black director at that time.

Earlier this year, Anna Faris, who played Cindy in the series said she would love to return to the franchise, but only if Regina Hall, who portrays Brenda, also returns.
“I would love to work with Regina again. I just love her so much. We would make each other giggle all day long. Regina Hall would be my answer [regarding a reprise]. And money. But mostly all Regina!” she said at the time.
