Jonathan Majors is opening up about the horrific sexual abuse he endured at the age of 9.
The actor, 35, reflected on his childhood traumas in his first formal interview with The Hollywood Reporter since his April 2024 sentencing.
“I dealt with sexual abuse from both men and women from the time I was 9,” Majors, who revealed that his father left his family when he was 8, shared.
“From people who are supposed to look after you, in the absence of a father. I was f–ked up.”
Majors said he opened up to his mother, a pastor, about the abuse in recent months and she apologized for not being able to protect him.
“I’m like, ‘It’s not even an issue, mom. I just want you to know,” he said of their conversation. “And now we can all get busy and continue to connect and grow and learn from it, because it’s something that was in our family.”
Majors said that working through his own trauma, during therapy and a domestic violence program he attended in the wake of his 2023 assault trial, has helped him unpack his past behavior.
“There are no excuses, but by getting help, you begin to understand things about yourself,” he said.
The Creed III actor told the outlet that he’s since learned to take accountability for writing his own story.
“Am I going to fall into that narrative of falling apart, of self-destruction? Have a struggle, blame the world. Have a struggle, hate yourself. Have a struggle, deny everything,” he said. “None of those narratives is beneficial.”
Instead, Majors plans to “have a struggle, learn, metabolize, grow.”

Majors’ acting career took a rapid downturn following his March 2023 arrest in New York City after an alleged altercation with his ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari.
In December 2023, he was found guilty of misdemeanor third-degree assault for recklessly causing physical injury, as well as second-degree harassment.
According to THR, the jury believed Majors had caused injuries to Jabbari during the altercation but that it wasn’t done intentionally. He avoided jail time and was sentenced to probation and a year-long domestic violence intervention program.
Following the jury’s verdict, the Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania star was fired by Marvel Studios.
On finding out he was fired, Majors recalled it coming from a member of his team “He goes, I’m just gonna tell you now, that way you’re not surprised, and you can start processing it. They fired you. Marvel fired you.’”
Despite being dropped by Marvel and several other film and television projects, Majors remains hopeful for redemption and a return to the big screen, beginning with Magazine Dreams.
The film, in which he stars as an aspiring bodybuilder, marks his first movie release since his trial and is set to hit theaters on March 21.
“Do I hope to make more movies? Absolutely. That is my intention,” he said. “But that’s not my call. I don’t have a studio. And I’ve given up control.”
