Tracee Ellis Ross is opening up about the grief of not having a child or a partner.
Speaking with Michelle Obama and her brother Craig Robinson on their IMO podcast, the Blackish star, 52, admitted to feeling some pain about not having her own family.
But even with all that, Ross made it clear that she refuses to settle with the wrong partner.
“I did dream of my wedding growing up,” she told the podcast hosts. “And that’s not to say that I didn’t dream of the bigness of my life. But I could have spent a lot more time dreaming of my life.”
“And you know…as much as does surface around me not having children and not having a partner, I still wouldn’t want the wrong partner. I’m not interested in that.”
Ross explained that living as a “choiceful woman” has taught her how to navigate life without “someone to hide behind.” Still, she’s holding out, hoping her person will find her one day.
“I have come to really know that there is a big difference in somebody that I am looking and dating as a partner and somebody that’s somebody to enjoy and take what I like and leave the rest.”
She continued: “And I learned as I’ve gotten older, like chemistry is not a relationship. And love does not always include chemistry. And I’m somebody who wants both…and everybody is not like that.”
The “Girlfriends” star also mentioned that she feels most men her age are stuck in a toxic masculinity mindset. She said she believes most of them grew up thinking relationships should look or act a certain way.
“And I have been long past the age where I feel like it’s my job to teach somebody or grow them up,” she said.
And as for how her dating journey has been going, Ross revealed that she hasn’t had any luck yet, but she’s moving up on what she’s looking for as a match.
