It’s the return of Big Willie.
This Sunday, June 30, Hollywood heavyweight Will Smith will make a triumphant return to the spotlight at the 2024 BET Awards. Smith is set to debut a brand-new song, marking his first solo material in over five years, Variety reports.
The network announced that his special performance will take place live during the awards show, which will be hosted by Taraji P. Henson.
Connie Orlando, EVP Specials, Music Programming & Music Strategy at BET, expressed excitement about Smith’s return, stating, “From his start as a rapper to The Fresh Prince to being a box office king as one of the Bad Boys, Will Smith is truly a global icon, and we are honored to welcome him back to grace the BET Awards stage.”
We look forward to Will adding to yet another defining night for the culture that is not to be missed.”
Smith’s performance joins a stacked lineup at this year’s BET Awards, featuring stars like Ice Spice, Tyla, Victoria Monét, GloRilla, Latto, Muni Long, Sexyy Red, and Shaboozey.
Ms.Lauryn Hill will also perform alongside her son, YG Marley, while country star Tanner Adell will perform on the BET Amplified stage.
Meanwhile, all eyes are on Taraji P. Henson, who will be back to host the annual awards show for the third time on Sunday, June 30, at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
This year, the 2024 BET Awards will pay special tribute to Usher, who is set to receive the prestigious Lifetime Achievement BET Award. The Coming Home artist joins a revered roster of trailblazers and icons whose contributions have left an indelible mark on culture and entertainment.
Previous Lifetime Achievement Awards recipients include Anita Baker, Busta Rhymes, Lionel Richie, Mary J. Blige, Prince, Queen Latifah, and Whitney Houston.
