Cam Newton is expressing regret about the viral Youth Football Fight Video that had social media buzzing about a week ago.
The former NFL quarterback spoke out for the first time since that video of him in a fight at a youth football tournament went viral.
He said he feels really bad about how things went down. On the latest episode of the 4th & 1 YouTube series (check it out around the 37:00 mark), Newton explained he’s “disappointed” in himself for letting it all happen.
“I don’t want to point the finger and say this person said this and that person said that. It’s all in the the nature of sports,” Newton said. “Am I saying this is the first time it happened or the last time it will happen? It’s just something that—it starts with words, and it should have ended with words. That’s it. And I’m disappointed in myself by letting it escalate to what it did. And that’s why I’m apologetic.
“I’ve seen clips on clips on clips. I’ve seen the content that they’ve put out, or whatever. The truth of the matter is this: Me being in my position, I should’ve never put myself in that position. Because even then, it’s like that s–t could’ve got ugly. Like, for real. It could’ve. And that’s why I’m trying to bring the seriousness to the situation.”
Footage of the altercation emerged online on February 25th, showing Newton and another individual grappling, followed by several others trying to step in and calm things down, while someone else throws a punch.
