Jacquees once confidently declared himself the “King of R&B.”
In a recent episode of the Baller Alert podcast aired on Saturday, he opened up about the repercussions of that bold claim.
The singer pondered the origins of the internet’s beef towards him during the podcast.
“I was trying to figure out where I went left with the internet. But it was when said I was King of R&B.”
According to HipHopDX, the hosts agreed that this proclamation might have been his misstep.
However, when quizzed if he still believes he’s the best, Jacquees responded with unwavering confidence.
“Of course! I’m a feel like that forever. You don’t say you’re the best and then one day, you’re like, ‘Okay I’m not the best no more.’ [You should feel that way] until you retire.”
Jacquees’ Bold Claim Greatly Divided Opinion
While many fans stand by the singer, his industry peers have mixed feelings.
In 2021, YK Osiris took a playful jab at the R&B artist after his rendition of “The Star Spangled Banner” at a Lakers game became infamous.
YK Osiris shared a video of himself dancing to a remix of Jacquees’ performance with an interesting caption:
“Bro wtf is wrong with me, not going lie that shit hitting hard on god.”
Jacquees didn’t take kindly to the joke.
While the R&B star remains confident in his talents, it’s evident that he should balance self-confidence with the nuances of public reception.
