Dominican singer Hugo D. Almonte has issued a public apology after outing his ex, American R&B artist Khalid, on social media.
Last week, Almonte caused a stir on X (formerly Twitter) with a post claiming, “One of your favorite gay R&B singers suck my d-k, and it was really bad.”
He followed it up with further allegations, calling Khalid a “dumb ass singer” and accusing him of lying about Almonte breaking into his home.
To fuel speculation, he posted a selfie with Khalid, captioned, “Bitch ass lied and said I broke into his house cause I didn’t want him.”
Now, in a since-deleted post on Friday (November 29), Almonte is issuing an apology and explanation for why he outed Khalid.
“I’ve been reflecting deeply on everything that’s happened, and it’s time I speak up,” Almonte started.
“I’ve seen the comments, the backlash, and the disappointment. I understand why people are upset, and I take full responsibility for my actions,” he continued. “I made a mistake – a serious one. I outed someone, and that was wrong.”
“No matter the circumstances, it wasn’t my place to reveal something so personal. For that, I am truly sorry.”
Almonte then went on to detail why he outed Khalid, claiming it was “years of emotional abuse, relationship manipulation, and relentless lies” that caused his mental health to unravel.
According to the Dominican singer, Khalid ended his relationship with an ex-lover, and the two started dating right afterwards. But their relationship allegedly took a dark turn when the “Location” singer reportedly fabricated a story about Almonte breaking into his home.
Earlier in his post, Almonte claimed he and Khalid went house hunting together with the “Lovely” singer and even invited him to move in with him. However, Almonte allegedly refused.
According to him, he didn’t want to “give up his independence” because he knew how “situations like these could turn.” Almonte denied the accusations of breaking into Khalid’s home, although the 26-year-old Eastside singer insisted he did and allegedly “threatened” Almonte with contacting the authorities.
“Imagine being accused of something so serious, something you know you didn’t do, and then being threatened on top of it,” he wrote in his post.

Almonte then allegedly contacted Khalid’s manager, who supposedly confirmed what he already knew: ” He didn’t do it.” But even after discovering who broke into Khalid’s home, Almonte claimed the “lies didn’t stop.”
“For years, I stayed silent, carrying the weight of these accusations. I tried to move on, but the constant lies, manipulation, and threats took a toll on my mental health,” Almonte alleged.
“I was exhausted, emotionally drained, and at times, I didn’t recognize myself anymore. reached a point where my mental health collapsed, and I made a mistake I deeply regret.”
Almonte then said that when he made those tweets, the day he outed Khalid, he had reached his “breaking point.”
“The stress, the accusations, the lies—it all built up until I went into a psychosis,” he said. “I wasn’t thinking clearly. I was reacting from a place of deep pain and frustration.”
He continued: “I know that doesn’t excuse what I did. Outing someone is never okay, no matter how hurt or broken you feel. But I need you to understand that I was pushed to a place where I felt powerless, voiceless, and out of control.”
But he said that doesn’t justify his actions. In fact, he is looking to make some changes in his life.
“Moving forward, I’m focusing on healing—mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. I’m learning from this experience and working to ensure I never handle conflict in this way again,” he said.
“I know that some people won’t forgive me, and I accept that. But I hope, in time, you can see that I’m not just the person who made that mistake. I’m someone who’s learning, growing, and trying to be better every day.”
Despite the apology, many online users criticized Almonte, accusing him of seeking attention to boost his career.
One user tweeted, “This isn’t an apology; this is you trying to justify being a bad person and also trying to drag him here and there in the process,” one user tweeted. “Nobody knew about any of this before you made it a thing. If this was serious, you could have just gone the legal route.”
Another wrote: “Nobody knew about these ‘rumours’ you speaking of. You tried to use this as a way to further your non existent music career and it backfired on you BAD now you backtracking and tryna play victim. Your apology isn’t genuine, you’re just a loser.”
Khalid has remained silent on the matter, instead focusing on his upcoming collaborations with Normani, Ayra Starr, and Chloe Bailey.
