The imagery for Lil Nas X’s upcoming song, “J Christ,” is out, and people are mad.
The image shows the rapper raised on a crucifix, similar to Jesus Christ.
But, according to Complex, the 24-year-old rapper insists the artwork does not mock Jesus or Christianity.
“Nowhere in the picture is a mockery of Jesus… Jesus’s image is used throughout history in people’s art all over the world. I’m not making fun of shit.”
“Yall just gotta stop trying to gatekeep a religion that was here before any of us were born. stfu.”
Could Lil Nas X Be Trolling Us?

The rapper and two-time Grammy winner is leaning hard into Christian-related content for the upcoming album.

Lil Nas X’s choices have made fans wonder if he’s trolling them, especially after he shared a snippet of one of his upcoming songs.
“Father, stretch my hands / The lonely road seems to last the longest… Help me with my plans / Everything seems to go nowhere / Oh, free me from worry and wanting pity / Free me from all this envy in me / I don’t want these feelings / I don’t want these feelings / I call on angels / I’m trying hard to face my pain, yeah / Give me hope when I feel / Give me hope when I feel less.”
Lil Nas X certainly isn’t the first to use religious imagery, so whether he’s mocking Christianity or not is up to your interpretation.

the problem is y’all judge everything at face value. i’ve never released a visual without an underlying meaning and y’all know that. but since i’m a troll y’all discount my art as just “pissing ppl off” https://t.co/8Tw1sPf9Qs
