While some may speculate that her role in the film is a product of celebrity connections, the movie’s director, Barry Jenkins, assures us that this is far from the case.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight on August 12, Jenkins shed light on why Blue Ivy was chosen to voice Kiara, the daughter of Nala and Simba.
“She did a wonderful job bringing this character Kiara to life,” Jenkins said. “I’m really proud of her, really proud of the work she did. As we were thinking of who could play this character, I thought, ‘Oh, this is it. She’s the right age, the right vibe. Let’s test it out.’ She was just tremendous. There are some things she does in this film that are really emotional. She’s a thespian. [And the casting] had nothing to do with mom and dad. She was the right young woman for the job.”
It’s easy to understand why Blue Ivy has been so successful in her creative ventures.
Beyond her natural talent, she has received invaluable guidance from her mother, Beyoncé, on how to handle the pressures of public life.
Tina Knowles, Blue Ivy’s grandmother, recounted a pivotal moment in Blue Ivy’s journey.
“One of [Blue Ivy’s] friends came back and showed her some negative comments and it was a great life lesson,” Knowles shared. “Because her mom basically said, ‘Listen, if you let this get you down, then they won. So you should go and work harder. And, you know, just work harder and get your skills together and go out there and blast it.'”
This advice from her mother seemed to ignite a fire in Blue Ivy.
Initially expected to perform only once, her determination and growth led to even more opportunities.
“So it actually worked in [Blue Ivy’s] favor because she was only supposed to do it one time,” Knowles continued. “But now her mom was, that mama bear was on to it. It was like, she was like, ‘You go out there and kill it,’ and she did. She just grew so much from that experience.”
As Blue Ivy Carter prepares for her acting debut, it’s clear that this is just the beginning of a promising career.
With the right blend of talent, work ethic, and support from her family, she’s ready to step into the spotlight and make her mark in the entertainment industry.
