Eva Marcille is currently in the middle of her divorce from lawyer and businessman Michael Sterling after 4 years of marriage.
The couple called it quits in March and they share three children: son 4-year-old Michael Sterling, Jr., whom they welcomed in 2018, and Maverick Sterling, 3. Sterling is also a father figure to Marcille’s daughter Marley Rae from her previous relationship with ex-Kevin McCall.
On Twitter (seemingly unprovoked) the account Black Millionaires wrote:
Eva of Real Housewives of Atlanta married a successful business man Michael Sterling. He adopted her daughter from a past relationship and raised her as his own along with 2 their kids. Eva filed for divorce and is demanding he pay child support for all 3 kids + spousal support.

On one hand, people think that Eva is wrong for asking for child support for her oldest child who Michael adopted.
On the other hand, some are making the point that Michael should in fact pay child support!
According to Page Six Sterling raised the little girl as his own and even gave her his last name in 2020.

I want y’all to really read beyond the tweets & go google a little bit. He legally adopted her daughter which makes him the father of their 3 children. He admitted to doing wrong and vowed to get his family, but EVA has every right to demand child support plus alimony https://t.co/7RSo04nnZy

Very wicked from Eva, but after adopting her daughter I think he will have to pay the child support for all three?. This should be a lesson to all men tho https://t.co/0aRBuChQxq

I’m confused. If Eva’s now ex husband adopted her eldest daughter (like legally), wouldn’t he have to pay child support?

Headlines like this are so intentional. Especially when divorce and/or child support is the topic. Plus, Eva has several accolades, reducing her to a ‘housewife’ is so calculated. They know what side of twitter they want this to reach https://t.co/IViF82SUS1

How TF do you file for divorce and want child support for a kid thats not his and spousal support. Eva betta get off her ass and get a job. I hope she don't get shit for this blasphemous move.

It's being highlighted because it says he raised the child and has been in her life. Why should this man pay child support? Does it say he's no longer in his kids life? Why does Eva need spousal and child support? If she broke then let that man have full custody!

It’s not always about NEEDING child support. Eva got money of her own. But mf these your kids too why I gotta be the main/only supporter financially?

Yeah, bro. There’s valid reasons why it’s legalized. Eva’s husband could have put it in prenup (if he had one) that he‘LL only provide child support for his biological children, in the event that they get divorced. But she clearly got in his head. Predatory woman

Let’s clear this up!
According to The Child Support Enforcement Act of 1984, in the eyes of the law, an adopted child is treated the same as a biological child, and both parents have the legal obligation to financially support the child until they reach the age of majority.
However, the specifics of child support laws can vary depending on the jurisdiction and the individual circumstances of the case.
Legally, Eva is not wrong whether she has money in the bank or not.
