Makeup is one of our greatest saviors when it comes to a little enhancement here and there. It covers the dark circles under our eyes before we head out in the morning, it elevates our look to something sultry and sexy for a night on the town, and even serves as another way to express our creativity!
Most importantly, it’s a great way to cater to our natural beauty instead of covering it all up. The best way to achieve this? Nailing a go-to no-makeup makeup look! Brands like Glossier and Waterlilies And Company do this well. They provide products from foundation, concealer to lipstick and eyeliner to help give you that natural look. It’s just a lot easier than doing a full face everyday. Especially in the summer, this is the best option to go for if you are also wanting to work on your skin care.
Whether you’re looking for something appropriate for the office or entirely new to the world of makeup, here are 4 tips to help you achieve the perfect no-makeup makeup look!
Work With Your Skin, Not On Top of It
Often times when we put on makeup, our goal is to hide everything we can. Whether it’s covering our entire face in concealer to hide blemishes or packing on foundation so our skin will look nearly perfect, we tend to want the fullest coverage we can get! While it’s great, and even admirable, to achieve a flawless finish with makeup, it’s unnecessary to mask our face in so many products.
Instead of heavily layering everything on, only do what’s necessary. For an example, only put concealer on noticeable spots and blemishes; use a shade that actually matches your skin tone instead of one that’s lighter. For foundation, use a light to medium coverage formula that mimics healthy skin. If your skin is clear enough, try a BB Cream–most of them offer SPF and moisturizing properties along with coverage, and are virtually unnoticeable!

Swap Shimmer for Hydration
Our inner diva loves to add a little shimmer, shine, and glitter to our makeup looks; it’s youthful, fun, and can easily spice up any style! However, using glitter-packed highlighters and glosses defeat the purpose of a natural, everyday look. You might not be able to use all the glitter you’d like, but that doesn’t mean you have to give up any of your glow and shine! Instead, go for a hydrating primer, illuminating foundation, or shimmerless highlight. Most of these products are balms, creams, or liquids and will aid in hydrating your skin as well!

You are Not Just One Color, So Mix It Up!
I know, I know–it is extremely tempting to pick one shade for everything when you’re attempting a natural look. Brown foundation? Check! Brown concealer? Check! Brown lipstick and gloss? Check and check! But really, look at your face. Do you see the cool or warm undertones in your skin, slight change of color in your lips, the way your skin darkens up toward your eyes? Your face has definition, and for this reason, you will find all types of different shades present!
Work with your undertone (warm, cool, olive, or neutral) to pinpoint what colors you should use for blush, lipstick, foundation, and highlight.

Rethink Your Eyebrows
Perfect curves and neat lines are exactly what we look to achieve when shaping our eyebrows. However, they are not the best option when going for something natural, so the brow gels and cream products probably wouldn’t be the best to shape and fill them in, either.
Of course, getting your natural eyebrows done via threading or waxing should be your first pick if possible. If not, go for a brow powder and/or soft pencil that will mimic the look of natural eyebrow hair! This would also be a good time to step away from jet black and try other colors (like off black, honey blonde and dark brown) that might naturally compliment your hair and skin better!
