Each year, we are treated to music from thousands of artists—especially if you are open to hearing from new artists.
The hip-hop scene is among the most competitive, so many new rappers don’t make it beyond a hit song or two.
However, some female rappers are just too good.
This list looks at the female rappers who blew up in the past year or two and could become the next Megan Thee Stallion or Cardi B.
Let’s start!
Armani Caesar
Armani Caesar released her debut album in 2020.
However, thanks to the pandemic, the album went largely unnoticed despite gaining critical acclaim from several outlets.
In 2022, Caesar’s made things right by releasing her second album, “The Liz 2.”
She teamed up with Westside Gunn to release the hit song “Lil Cease,” which had what Complex calls one of the year’s best verses.
You will love Armani Caesar if you’re a fan of raunchy female rappers like Foxy Brown and Lil’ Kim.
Calling herself Griselda’s First Lady, Caesar isn’t afraid to be the woman in a male-dominated scene.
If anything, she thrives off of it.
Erica Banks
In 2021, Erica Banks gave us one of the hottest songs in “Buss It.”
With 64 million views, the song also went viral on TikTok through the Buss It Challenge.
The Texas rapper has signed with Warner Records and is working on new stuff.
Musically, Erica Banks sounds like Megan Thee Stallion and DaBaby.
However, she draws inspiration from Nicki Minaj, Lil’ Kim, and Missy Elliott.
Rubi Rose
No, not the actress who played Batwoman.
Rubi Rose is among the most sensual new female rappers.
She rose to fame as the primary model in Migos’ video for “Bad and Boujee.”
Rose also appeared in Megan Thee Stallion and Cardi B’s “WAP” video.
However, Rose wasn’t satisfied with just being a video vixen.
Instead, she showed her range by rapping in different styles with raunchy lyrics and a confident manner.
In 2021, the 24-year-old released a freestyle for XXL.
Rose has been relatively quiet in 2022, but you can be sure she’s not resting on her laurels.
A new mixtape, EP, or album is in the next year’s cards.
Che Noir
Do you like hip-hop with an ample dose of storytelling and lyricism?
That’s what you get with Che Noir.
Her music isn’t mainstream, but it has heart.
Che Noir is part of Buffalo’s fast-growing Griselda Records with Armani Caesar.
However, their styles are anything but similar.
One month after leaving her job, Che Noir performed in a sold-out show with .38 Spesh.
By 2020’s end, she had found her music label, Poetic Movement.
Che Noir is among the few new female rappers with deep, impactful lyrics.
Her music is impactful, and she has delivered some of 2020’s best verses.
Big Mali
Big Mali is a bundle of energy.
She has an aggressive and precise flow and raps with a confidence that belies her young age; she is still only 20.
Big Mali started rapping at 15.
Two years later, she signed with SCMG, which houses Toosii and DaBaby.
The rapper has evolved from her initial sound—which was gangster stuff—to showing diversity.
She is also not bothered about being mainstream as long as she makes the music she believes in and can make a living.
KenTheMan
No, KenTheMan is not a dude.
The Texas-born rapper started rapping while still a teenager.
When working as a waitress, she wrote her first song, “He Be Like.”
In 2021, KenTheMan released her debut album, “What’s My Name.”
The album was a critical hit, landing on Rolling Stone’s list of the year’s best albums.
Since then, she has released a new single and is working on more recent material.
Give KenTheMan a try if you like Saweetie or Megan Thee Stallion.
