Earlier I posted a video clip of stylist Tierra J beauty doing what she calls a rubber band roller set on her hair and the results were gorgeous.

Some of the questions that were asked from my followers after watching the clip are pretty common for these types of sets so I thought I would help to clear some of them up.
Why use rubber bands and are they dangerous?
Rubber bands are used to keep the roots of the hair taught while setting the hair. It is equivalent to putting your hair in a tight ponytail when wet and drying it so that the roots get super straight. If you have ever tried to do a roller set on natural hair then you know how hard it is to get the roots straight without using a flat iron after your hair dries.
If you choose to use a rubber band on your hair, I would say be very careful when removing them because it can snag your hair. Most stylists choose to cut the bands out of the hair which is the safest route to take. If you are doing this yourself, then you can also use a hair tie which are bigger than rubber band and much less inclined to snag.
What is the saran wrap for?
The silk wrap portion of the video utilizes a saran wrap that is wrapped around the head with the hair wrapped in a circular motion. The saran wrap helps to further smooth the hair so that you can reduce some of the lines and excessive curls that rollers seem to give. It helps you to get that big barrel curl look that most of us prefer when doing a roller set.
What are the products used?
Tierra used Design Essentials line, shampoo and leave in conditioner as well as Tresseme conditioner. When I do a roller set I shampoo and condition my hair ensuring to wash out the conditioner thoroughly. I use a liquid leaving conditioner over the creamy version and I use a foam wrap to set the hair. My favorite foam wrap to use is the Creme of Nature Argon Oil Foaming Mousse.
