For her sixth book, Andrea Stephenson has partnered with her son, Corban.
The bestselling author’s latest work is titled Our-Story Black History for Kids: Scientists: Over 50 Fun Art, Science Experiments, and STEM DIY Projects.
Like the title says, the book contains 50 different projects to help both kids and parents to remember the scientific contributions that Black people have made in history.
The Importance of the Book
According to Stephenson, Black history is vital for Black children because it gives them pride and confidence.
She herself experienced this when she was still 9: her elder brother and sister-in-law created a program called Our Story 101 that teaches children about Black history and the contributions Africans have made to the world.
When Corban was still 3 years old, Stephenson started exposing him to lessons on Black history. To make the lessons fun, she used both hands-on and storytelling activities like art, play, and games.
Corban showed plenty of enthusiasm for the lessons. This encouraged Stephenson to share the information with other kids and parents through the book that’s available on Amazon.
What Is the Book About?
Our-Story Black History for Kids: Scientists is about 12 Black scientists who made significant contributions to the world.
In each story, the reader follows the early life of the scientist and leads up to their achievements that made a difference.
After every story, the book has fun projects that hold kids’ interest and reinforce the major ideas of the story.
The book also has additional references to Stephenson’s YouTube channel, Corban’s Fun Learning Adventures.
In this channel, both Stephenson and her son share DIY projects, learning games, and science experiments every week.
Building on Greatness
Stephenson’s goal is for both children and parents to find inspiration from the content in the book and to consider the infinite possibilities they have.
She hopes that it will encourage kids to become innovators and inventors who will change our world.
