According to The Hill Gayle King and Charles Barkley’s stint hosting a talk show on CNN has concluded.
Last week marked the final episode of “King Charles,” a weekly talk show introduced by CNN last year as a limited series.
The program showcased King and Barkley engaging in commentary and interviews spanning diverse topics from politics to entertainment.
Despite its launch shortly after former CNN CEO Chris Licht’s departure, the prime-time show struggled to secure a significant viewership in the fiercely competitive cable news landscape.
During one early episode, Barkley humorously remarked about the show’s potential audience, joking, “We hope you all enjoy the show. And we really hope y’all have Nielsen boxes,” as highlighted by The Washington Post.
In a recent statement, CNN confirmed the end of the show, acknowledging that “King Charles has completed its limited run as announced during its launch last fall.”
The network praised it as a valuable addition to CNN’s programming, attracting a young, affluent, and diverse audience.
Gayle King remains a co-host on “CBS Mornings,” while Charles Barkley continues his prominent role as a basketball analyst for TNT, both networks being part of the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate alongside CNN.
The Gayle King/Charles Barkley CNN show has been cancelled after just six months. A ratings disaster. Charles is great on TNT with Kenny and Shaq, but pairing him with the patently-overrated Gayle King was a horrible (Chuck voice) idea from the get-go. https://t.co/w2n54cZban

and
#KingCharles Was cancelled because Gayle King is boring and Charles Barkley can’t speak.
