Are ya’ll still buying albums? Not gonna lie, I only purchase albums I know will be good from start to finish.
If Prince was still making music, he would get all my coins! This isn’t quite the same for some new up and coming artists.
Coi Leray’s second album, COI, was recently unveiled, but unfortunately, it has faced substantial criticism from music critics for its perceived lackluster sampling.
Regrettably, this sentiment seems to be shared by her fanbase, evident in the album’s underwhelming sales of just 10,000 units during its initial week.
Last year, Trendsetter sold 11.5k units in its first week and debuted at number 89 on the Billboard 200.
This year things are worse!
Despite “Players” being Coi Leray’s most successful track to date, she appears to have encountered a setback.
Her latest album, COI, placed at a disappointing number 102 on the Billboard 200 chart.
Numerous fans were swift to attribute the lack of promotion from Leray’s label as the primary reason for this underperformance.
On platforms like Twitter, individuals highlighted missed opportunities such as the recent BET Awards, where more could have been done to promote COI.
People are comparing Coi to Chloe Bailey who also sold pretty low her first week as well, but in defense of both artists, I think we are in a new era.
People might be buying less albums over all, streaming more, and spending their money to see artists in their cities.
I don’t understand the shock about Coi Leray’s sales.. We’re in an era where albums are not selling phenomenally unless you’re a bigger artist, then there was a lack of promotion (I feel like most of the general public didn’t know she had an album being released), and it’s… pic.twitter.com/FQm1tB1eUS

Despite how the media might make things appear, Coi is proud of where she is thus far.
She tweeted:
Grateful to have an album on the top 200 for my first week of my album release, again.
This time with 3 hits on the hot 100 … woah ?. I’m super proud of myself. Bigger and better year every time. Keep streaming #COI ???? it’s an AMAZING project !
