At the end of the day, sometimes people just need a freind and Nene Leakes proved that when she reached out to Kim Zolciak amid her messy divorce.
According Page Six NeNe Leakes revealed she reached out to friend-turned-enemy Kim Zolciak as an act of support during the latter’s bitter divorce from estranged husband Kroy Biermann.
It’s unclear if the former “Real Housewives of Atlanta” star connected with her co-star, as Leakes revealed she doesn’t know how Zolciak is holding up amid the drama.
“I don’t know how she’s doing overall. I just reached out to her because she reached out to me during the time when I was really going through something,” Leakes told TMZ this week, alluding to the death of her late husband, Gregg.
“I would have to think she’s taking it hard. It’s divorce. It’s not easy.”
Nene and Kim’s friendship timeline
People documented the ‘dynamic duo’s” friendship through the years before RHOA aired in 2008.
Prior to the start of the show Kim Zolciak and NeNe Leakes were tighter than ever.
But as most reality TV relationships go, the pair’s friendship hit a rough patch when NeNe began sharing her disapproval of Kim dating a man she referred to as “Big Poppa,” who was rumored to be married.
This caused a rift between the pair for the duration of the first season.
During the season 1 reunion of RHOA, Kim told host Andy Cohen that “Big Poppa,” with whom she had an on-again, off-again relationship, was still legally married to his wife, but in the process of getting a divorce.
NeNe reacted to Kim’s admission with a now-infamous Housewives one-liner: “Close your legs to married men.”
Fans curious about Kim and NeNe’s current friendship status were treated to a joint 2014 appearance on Watch What Happens Live.
While participating in the late-night talk show’s “Plead the Fifth” segment, NeNe revealed that of all the things she’s said about Kim on RHOA, she wishes she could take back her “close your legs to married men” comment from season one. “Oh, I love that, thank you,” responded Kim.
During a pre-taped October 2017 episode of Watch What Happens Live, Kim – who was joined by husband Kroy – was asked about her current dynamic with NeNe.
“I love [NeNe] always will, we started together so,” she told host Andy Cohen before news of their feud went public.
Biermann, 37, filed for divorce from Zolciak, 45, in May after 11 years of marriage.
Fueled by numerous financial woes, the split quickly became acrimonious as the two began to fight for custody of their four minor children.
The former NFL player alleged in a June court filing that his estranged wife — who allegedly punched him in the head the day before their divorce paperwork was filed — is “abusive” and their kids need protection from her as the custody battle plays out.
