According to HNHH Damian Lillard has has filed for divorce from his wife, Kay’la Hanson.
Damian submitted the request to the Clackamas County Circuit Court, with the initial report coming from the Willamette Week.
The Lillards have been married since 2021, and have been together since their college years at Weber State.
According to the divorce documents Lillard attributed the divorce to “irreconcilable differences” and indicates that they have been residing separately since December 2022.
The couple shares three children: a five-year-old and twin daughters aged two.
According to the NY Post Lillard and Kay’La originally met at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah, with the 33-year-old point guard telling Ebony in 2021 how she “took care of” him.
“She had the car, an apartment and bent over backwards for me. Kay’La accepted me with all my flaws as a young man,” Lillard said at the time.
Lillard proposed to Kay’La during the NBA’s All-Star weekend in Chicago in 2020.
“I told her we were attending a new Valentine’s Day event the NBA was hosting. We showed up to the venue where I had a wall full of roses designed with ‘Will You Marry Me?’” he recalled to Ebony.
The filing on October 2nd occurred within a week of Lillard’s trade to the Milwaukee Bucks.
With the couple seemingly having lived apart for nearly a year, it remains uncertain how Lillard’s trade may have influenced the choice to officially seek a divorce.
