Issa Rae is here to help out artists who lack the representation they deserve.
Using her Raedio Label, she has partnered with Google to launch the Raedio Creators Program.
Since launching Raedio in 2019, Rae has already helped four artists to breakthrough. TeaMarrr and Yung Baby Tate are two of them. Now, she aims to increase representation for women of color in the industry.
According to Rae, the music industry is worse than even film. It is full of criminals, crooks, archaic mentalities, and conflicts of interest.
That’s why it’s more important than ever to give underrepresented artists a fighting chance to gain success.
This partnership works for Rae because it aligns with her mission of giving opportunities and opening doors for women to flourish and succeed in their craft.
According to Billboard, The Raedio Creator Program by Google plans to choose two composers and two female artists.
It will give them resources and funding to make music.
Funding covers producer costs, recording fees, and marketing expenses for the artist to release a three-to-five song EP. Best of all, they will retain full ownership of the music they make.
The Raedio record label will distribute their music, which will be available on all major digital service providers.
Google will also fund the development and production of a single music video for each of the artists.
Issa Rae loves giving artists as many opportunities as possible.
In her hit HBO show, Insecure, which ran for five successful seasons, she often used music from independent artists.
According to Benoni Tagoe, Rae’s business partner, Raedio plans to put artists’ work in as many places as possible.
This should increase their visibility and thus increase their earning potential.
The Raedio Creator Program by Google is a much-needed program that is certain to boost the chances of struggling artists to become stars.
Other brands should borrow a leaf and help to make the music industry more inclusive.
