According to PEOPLE sources close to Keke are giving more clarity about Keke and Darius’s relationship.
Keke Palmer, who was recently granted a temporary restraining order against ex-boyfriend Darius Jackson, gave him “a lot of chances” in the past, a source told PEOPLE exclusively.
Earlier this week, the actress, 30, was also awarded temporary sole physical and legal custody of 8-month-old Leodis, the son she shares with Jackson, 29, after filing a request for a domestic violence restraining order against Jackson and requesting custody of their child.
Palmer “did what she had to do,” despite having worked “hard to have an amicable split.”
“She gave him a lot of chances to do the right thing,” they add. “Keke tried so hard to have an amicable split and arrangement [custody].”
“She needed to prioritize her safety and the safety of her baby,” the source continues. “She wants the best for Leo. She did not want it to get to this point. But she did what she had to do.”
The Vegas incident
The source with knowledge of the relationship also revealed that while there have been issues in their relationship in the past, the Las Vegas incident was the tipping point.
The source stated:
“I don’t think the Vegas incident caused all of this. There were problems before, but I do think it was the beginning of the end.”
Buried deep in the documents obtained by RadarOnline.com, the Nope actress claimed that
“Darius said very disturbing things to me that caused me to fear for our son’s safety with him.”
Palmer alleged that one of the more concerning statements included
“how he understood why male animals in the wild want to eat their children.” She also claimed that Jackson told her, “A man’s love for his child is based on if he loves the woman.”
Palmer said his alleged jealousy became a serious safety concern.
According to the Scream Queens star, due to Jackson’s “uncontrolled, violent outbursts in the past whenever he became jealous, I became seriously concerned he would hurt our son, even if it was just to hurt me.”
Keke continues to trend on Twitter, and we will continue to pray for her and her family.
