When Megan Thee Stallion’s “Hiss” music video dropped, it instantly went viral.
And it’s no surprise; the rapper has a penchant for refusing to conform and standing out through her videos.
In Hiss, Megan Thee Stallion rocks a raunchy Shibari red dress that shows off her curves.
According to xoNecole, the dress comes from the mind of Timeekah Murphy of Alani Taylor.
The Designer Shared Thoughts On The Iconic Megan Thee Stallion Dress
It all started with a DM.
Timeekah Murphy landed on the rare opportunity to design Megan Thee Stallion’s dress after receiving a direct message from stylist Zerina Akers.
Akers requested a distinct piece for the rapper; the timeline was only two days.
But Timeekah didn’t let the pressure get to her.
“I did everything in my power to make it happen. I’ve always wanted to design for Megan, so this was an awesome opportunity for me.”
Initially, Timeekah didn’t think Megan Thee Stallion used the dress.
But when she saw it for the first time, she was shocked.
“I was shocked because, at first, I thought it hadn’t been used. I saw Megan’s last video and thought, damn, maybe it didn’t fit. So, to see it on such an amazing video was breathtaking. I was beyond excited to finally say I designed for her.”
After seeing one of today’s greatest entertainers rock her dress, Timeekah was naturally ecstatic.
And she soon met the star at LA Pride with other celebs like Common and Tiffany Haddish.
The experience didn’t disappoint.
“Megan is such an amazing person, so it made it even better to know that my designs were going to be worn by her. I was shocked because, at first, I thought it hadn’t been used. I saw Megan’s last video and thought, damn, maybe it didn’t fit. So, to see it on such an amazing video was breathtaking. I was beyond excited to finally say I designed for her.”
How Did She Come Up With The Dress?
Timeekah had earlier worked for a brand called Deviant between 2018 and 2020, where she made custom Shibari pieces.
She made such pieces for other stars like Tyra Banks, Haddish, Cardi B, and Beyonce.
Making the dress took an intense day and a half.
“I spent about six hours making it then I sent an image of it to Zerina, and she didn’t approve the first one, so I had to start from scratch again after getting my guidance and understanding of what was needed. The next day, I went to The Lab and created another version, and she approved it. I had to get it shipped overnight so that she would get it in time and fast forward to seeing it on the big screen.”
After delighting Megan Thee Stallion with her design, Timeekah is excited for her next steps.
She plans to expand into different avenues and even offer sewing classes.
