If you think Missy Elliott has set and broken enough records, think again.
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has just nominated her to join its ranks, making Missy the first female rapper with the distinction.
What makes this honor astounding is that the rap superstar received the nomination in her first eligible year–she does not waste time when there’s a glass ceiling to shatter.
In a statement, Missy revealed her honor to be among the nominees.
The nomination especially hit home since she learned about the record she’d just set.
The rapper hopes her nomination will pave the way for other female emcees to become Rock & Rock Hall of Famers.
Missy Elliott Loves Breaking Records

Missy’s agent for a quarter of a century, Mona Scott Young, was ecstatic at the news.
She was proud of Missy for breaking barriers and blazing a trail for Black women musicians.
To Mona, the nomination was unexpected but unsurprising because Missy’s career has been full of firsts–these achievements made her a hip-hop pioneer and among history’s most influential musicians.
If you’re curious about Missy’s records, here are a few:
- Her debut album, Supa Dupa Fly, became the highest-charting album debut for a female hip-hop artist.
- The remix of her song, Hot Boyz, broke the US R&B Chart’s record for the most weeks at number one.
- In 2017, Missy became the bestselling female emcee in the history of Nielsen Music.
- She was the first female rapper to join the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
So, Missy Elliott is used to breaking records, and the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame nomination might not be her last.

Regardless, the rap legend thanked her fans for sticking with her all these years.
To Missy, they are absolute legends.
