Starla Soloway went viral on TikTok after posting a ‘come with me to go get braids’ video with Kim K as her inspiration.
The model filmed herself at the salon documenting every stage of the process then posted the video online for her 50K followers to enjoy.
It wasn’t long before the comment section shifted from praising the braiders work to calls for Starla to remove the braids.
The backlash was swift, but Starla was not phased.

Let’s forget about the braids for a bit and call this what it really is!
Another TikToker, known as @iamcrystalcrave online, decided to confront Starla about how dangerous it is for her to deliberately antagonize a group of people for clout.
Rage farming is a internet term that that refers to a manipulative tactic to elicit outrage with the goal of increasing internet traffic, online engagement, revenue and support.
When Crystal confronted Starla about what she was doing she called her out for the dangerous tactic.
Starla claimed that she was told to make those videos by a marketer she was working with.

We do not have to do any deep dives into cultural appropriation or think pieces about braids being ‘just a style’.
The fact is participating in a culture in an attempt to antagonize and disrespect the people who are part of that culture for clout is dangerous and racist.
