According to Popsugar when nominations were announced on Tuesday, it was revealed that the singer and entrepreneur’s Fall 2019 show had earned a nod for outstanding choreography in the variety or reality programming category.
This should come as no surprise to viewers of the show, which premiered on Amazon Prime Video in September 2019. In addition to musical performances by Halsey, Migos, Tierra Whack, and several others, the inclusive, industry-disrupting show had models of all shapes, skin tones, and abilities strut around the striking pseudo-Colosseum as dancers performed various expressive vignettes.
Rihanna opened the show herself with mesmerizing choreography, and Normani also delivered a buzzy moment set to Sean Paul’s “Get Busy.”
“My work is nothing without the passion from each performer.”
The show’s choreographer, Parris Goebel, reacted to the honor on Instagram. “Woke up to the best news,” she wrote.
“I definitely just cried my eyes out. Thank you to the incredible dancers and team that helped me bring this to life, my work is nothing without the passion and hard work from each performer, and THANK YOU to Rih for giving me the opportunity to create with no limits on such a big platform!! I feel so blessed, anything is possible.”
The Savage x Fenty account also posted about the news with a caption that read, “Did someone say #Emmy nomination?! The hype is real!”
Parris and Savage x Fenty are up against World of Dance, So You Think You Can Dance, and the 2020 Oscars opening sequence.
It’s certainly a rarity for a runway show to be nominated at the Emmy Awards (the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show was nominated once for lighting), but we have a feeling this will be the first of many for Rihanna and her growing empire.
Congrats Rih!
