After close to nine years, Showtime is heading into the sunset.
According to Variety, the standalone service will close on April 30.
The closure comes less than a year after Paramount Global integrated the streaming service’s programs into the premium Paramount+ subscription plan.
The company launched Paramount+ With Showtime in June 2023 with a price hike from $9.99 to $11.99.
Paramount Global had initially hoped to phase out the streaming service by the end of 2023
After Showtime’s Closure, What Happens Now?
A notice showed up on the streaming service’s customer help site, reading:
“Now that subscribers can access their favorite programs on Paramount+ by subscribing to the Paramount+ with Showtime plan, the streaming service will shut down on April 30, 2024. Current streaming subscribers will continue to have access to the streaming service until it is shut down on April 30, 2024.”
The streaming service launched in July 2015.
Its closure simply keeps with the times–Warner Bros. Discovery also merged HBO with Max, killing off HBO Now and HBO GO and rebranding the combined service as Max.
In January 2024, Paramount Global renamed the cable network as Paramount+ With Showtime, adding several Paramount+ series to the lineup.
Now that the streaming service has been absorbed to the bigger service, will you keep your subscription?
