Tiffany Haddish has opened up about her journey towards sobriety, which began after her DUI arrest in 2023.
During a recent appearance on British journalist Amanda de Cadnet’s The Conversation podcast, the 44-year-old actress and comedian shared that she has been sober for over two months, highlighting her commitment to personal growth and well-being.
“I haven’t drank any alcohol, smoked any weed or anything in, like, 72 days,” Haddish said. “It’s not hard. It’s not that hard for me, ’cause it wasn’t really, like, my main thing anyways.”
Haddish also discussed her challenges with maintaining a balanced diet, especially regarding her consumption of meat and candy. When asked about her decision to abstain from alcohol and weed, she explained that it stemmed from her commitment to following the law.
“It’s court-mandated,” she said, while making the point that weed helps her manage her endometriosis pain.
Her most recent legal issue occurred in the early hours of November 24, 2023, when she was found asleep at the wheel of her Tesla in Beverly Hills, California, leading to a DUI charge. However, she was released on the same day as her arrest.
The charge was later reduced to a violation, and in February, Haddish pleaded no contest.
Reflecting on the incident during her podcast appearance, she attributed her actions to driving while fatigued and acknowledged that stress had negatively impacted her health, making it difficult to contest the charges vigorously.
This incident marked her second DUI-related encounter, following a previous arrest in January 2022 by Peachtree City police officers in Georgia.
