In 2016, Tiffini Gatlin launched a high-end synthetic hair extensions brand, Latched and Hooked Beauty.
Her goal was to help Black women searching for affordable, stress-free, and non-toxic protective hairstyles.
The business was okay for a while, though it didn’t get the traction Gatlin had hoped for.
However, things changed in 2021.
Gatlin’s business drew the attention of Google for Startups, and they awarded Latched and Hooked Beauty $100,000 in funding.
In addition, Gatlin joined the ranks of Ulta Beauty’s MUSE 100 honorees.
Gatlin gained traction and drew the attention of a QVC hair buyer who asked her to make an original product for their network’s live show.
However, because of the pandemic, Gatlin faced freight delivery and product testing delays.

Even though Gatlin is the first Black woman to launch a hair extension product on QVC, she hopes others will follow.
What Latched and Hooked Beauty Does
Gatlin’s brand caters to Black women with skin and scalp sensitivities to hair fibers.
The brand tests its products for toxins and ensures they do not contain lead, formaldehyde, phthalates, or soluble heavy metals.
Gatlin wanted to make a wig for Black women who didn’t wear them.

Gatlin achieved her goal of making a wig for Black women to wear in under a minute.
After making history, Gatlin will continue innovating and creating products that cater to Black women and solve their problems.
