An LA judge on Wednesday (October 26) ordered Tory Lanez to be put under house arrest until the start of the scheduled November 28 trial for the alleged assault of Megan Thee Stallion in 2020.
The house arrest ruling, as per reports by People, comes into effect from October 31 and includes electronic monitoring of the 30-year-old rapper whose real name is Daystar Peterson.
“Peterson was placed on house arrest today by the court starting Monday until his trial date as a result of his alleged altercation with August Alsina,” a spokesperson for the LA County district attorney’s office said in a statement Wednesday. “He is scheduled to return to court on November 28 for a jury trial setting.”
Deputy District Attorney Alexander Bott told Superior Court Judge David Herriford that Lanez poses a danger to society and previously defied court orders not to come within 100 yards of the Her rapper. The Canadian rapper was previously arrested in April for violating court orders by addressing Thee Stallion directly on social media and revealing evidence via a third-party Twitter user.
DA Bott also put forward a motion requesting that Lanez be taken into custody without bail, claiming the Say It rapper assaulted August in Chicago in September by punching him in the face. Lanez’s lawyer, Shawn Holley, reportedly classed the altercation as “mere allegations,” saying he’s “not really sure that there’s anything this court should do given the unproven allegations.”
Superior Court Judge Herriford rejected the motion.
When a similar motion was rejected in April, Shawn Holley told People, “The DA requested that Mr. Peterson’s bail be revoked or, in the alternative, that it be increased to $5 million. We are pleased that the court rejected those outrageous requests.”
In October 2020, Lanez was charged with one felony count each of assault with a semiautomatic weapon, personal use of a firearm, and carrying a loaded, unregistered gun in a vehicle. He pleaded not guilty to both charges in November 2020.
LAPD Det. Ryan Stogner testified in December 2021 that Tory Lanez screamed, “Dance, bitch!” before shooting Thee Stallion in the foot, Rolling Stone reported.
“Megan observed Mr. Peterson holding a firearm, and then she observed him to start to shoot,” Det. Stagner reported at the time, per reports by the outlet. “Megan immediately felt pain in her feet, observed blood, fell to the ground, and then crawled to an adjacent driveway of a residence…She described her injuries as bleeding profusely.”
Stagner also stated that Lanez apologized for shooting Thee Stallion and “offered her money and begged her not to say anything,” according to the Sweetie Pie rapper’s account. Thee Stallion also informed the detective that Lanez made a “reference to the fact that he was already on probation.”
In January 2021, Ms. Thee Stallion named the In For It rapper as an “abuser” in a set of tweets concerning the incident, voicing frustration with the fact that the court of public opinion seemed to place some of the blame for the incident on her.
“Bitch you shot me, AND MY STORY NOT CHANGING, AND BITCH, YOU GOING TO JAIL,” she stated.
About a month after the highly publicized incident, Ms. Thee Stallion announced Lanez as the individual she claimed shot her foot.
“You shot me, and you got your publicist and your people going to these blogs lying and s—. Stop lying,” she wrote on Twitter, as captured by a fan’s account. “Why lie? I don’t understand. I tried to keep the situation off the internet, but you’re dragging it.”
Days after the Sorry 4 What artist’s arrest, Megan Thee Stallion spoke out about the incident on IG, claiming she “suffered gunshot wounds, as a result of a crime that was committed against me and done with the intention to physically harm me.”
