Trevor Noah, ‘The Son of Patricia,’ is stepping away from his role as ‘The Daily Show’ host.
Per the NY Times, the South African comedian/writer/producer who took over the hosting mantle from Jon Stewart seven years ago, revealed at Thursday’s taping (Sept 29) that he’d be exiting the program.
He’s the latest late-night show host to leave following the publicized 2023 exit of James Corden from The Late Late Show and the cancelation of Samantha Bee’s Full Frontal.
“We’ve laughed together, we’ve cried together,” Trevor said during a taping of the show on Thursday that was leaked before the show aired.
“But after seven years, I feel like it’s time.”
“It’s been absolutely amazing. It’s something that I never expected,” Trevor said of his time as The Daily Show’s host. “I found myself thinking throughout the time of everything we’ve gone through. The Trump presidency, the pandemic, just the journey, more pandemic, and I realize that after the seven years, my time is up.”
Trevor, a standup comedian from South Africa, was relatively new to American audiences when he was named the new host of ‘The Daily Show’ after Jon Stewart’s exit in 2015.
“I want to say thank you to you, to you who watched this,” he added.
“I never dreamed that I would be here. I sort of feel like ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.’ I came here for a tour of what the previous show was, and then the next thing you know, I was handed the keys.”
Trevor also hinted that his decision to exit the show is based on his desire to return to his standup specials, which allowed him to travel around the world, learn different languages, and be everywhere, doing everything.
“I spent two years in my apartment, not on the road, and when I got back out there, I realized there’s another part of my life out there that I want to carry on exploring. I miss learning other languages. I miss going to other countries and putting on shows.”
And while nothing has been shared about his actual departure time, Trevor reassured the audience that he’d still be around (for a while).
“Don’t worry, I’m not disappearing,” he said. “If I owe you money, I’ll still pay you.”

Comedy Central has also stated that it is ‘excited for the next chapter of The Daily Show’ but hasn’t said who would be the next host.
